El Paso, Tex. – The Maverick Men's Golf Team headed south to El Paso, Texas for the South Central Region Fall Preview, Hosted at the Butterfield Trail Golf Club.
Day one saw the Mavs teeter between the top three spots, ultimately finishing in third with a score of 575 (286-289), shooting 1-under.
Round one saw the Mavs tied for first with a team score of 286, leading the next team by four strokes. The afternoon saw continuous movement between Western New Mexico, Midwestern State and CMU, each team within just strokes of the other.
Kyle Pearson lead the way for his team through round one, shooting an impressive 69.
Peter Grossenbacher followed closely behind in sixth with a 70, going 2-under par. Grossenbacher capped off the day with a 143 (70-73), tied for 13
th overall.
Shooting up significantly after the morning round was freshman
Yael Chahin Gonzalez closing the day with a 142, improving his on his first card by six strokes to score a low 68.
Gonzalez leads the team tied for tenth, followed by Grossenbacher (T13) then Pearson (T24). Rounding out the lineup is Dane Ang (T32) who shot rounds of 75 and 73 (+1), and
Ethan Bishop (T32) with rounds of 73 and 75 (+3).
Bray Lambrecht who entered the tournament as an individual finished even on the day, tied for 50 with three others hitting 10-over.
