2023-24 (Senior): Played in nine of the team’s ten tournaments… Had a 73.19 scoring average in 26 rounds, third best on the team… Had 11 par or better rounds, including a season-best of 67 at the Centennial Cup… Also had a round of 68 of that tournament en-route to a ninth place (tie) finish and season-best tournament score of 211 (-5)… That was one of three top-10 finishes… Tied for third at the Southern Colorado Masters with an even par tournament score of 213 before tying for eighth at the RMAC Championships with another score of 213, which was three shots under par… Had four rounds in the 60s… Was selected as a CSC Academic All-District pick for Men's At-Large Sports... Named as a GCAA All-America Scholar for the third straight year... Named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
2022-23 (Junior): Earned First Team All-RMAC honors after leading the team in scoring average with a mark of 72.41, the third best in program history… Played in all ten of CMU’s tournaments and 29 rounds… Was at par or better in 14 of them, while signing for seven different scores in the 60’s…. His scored was used towards the Mavs’ team total in all 29 rounds… Had a season-low of 67 in the second round of the RMAC Championships, helping him to an eighth place (tie) finish… Had four top-10 finishes and two others inside the top 20… Had three straight scores in the 60s (69-69-68) en-route to a third place finish at the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invitational… His 54-hole score of 206 at that tournament was the third best in program history and the best or a Maverick in a full decade… Also tied for third at the Palm Valley Classic… Made 100 bridies throughout the season, equal to the fourth best single-season total in program history… Also earned a variety of academic honors, being voted to the RMAC All-Academic First Team before being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for men’s at-large sports… Went on to be named as a GCAA All-America Scholar for the second straight season.
Summer 2022: Qualified for the U.S. Amateur Open after surviving a 6-hole playoff at a qualifying event in Mexico City.
As a Sophomore (2021-22): Was a regular in the Maverick lineup, competing in ten of the team’s 11 tournaments, including all three championships… Posted a 75.72 scoring average in 29 rounds… Was second on the team in both tournaments and rounds played… Claimed three top-20 finishes, tying for 15
th at both The Writz at Mile High and Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invite during the fall before tying for 19
th at the Southern Colorado Masters in the Spring… Went on to tie for 21
st at the RMAC Championships before placing 72
nd (tie) at the NCAA Division II West/South Central Super Regional… Was 92
nd at the NCAA Division II National Championships… Posted scores of par or better in four rounds, including a season-low round of 69 in the first of two rounds at the Farmers Insurance Samuel Proal Invite in Pueblo… Had a second round of 71 and 36-hole total of 140 at that tournament… His low 54-hole score of the year was a 220 to begin the The Writz at Mile High… Matched that total at the regional to help the Mavs qualify for the national tournament as a team for the first time in program history… Named as a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar recipient by the GCAA and to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
As a Freshman (2020-21): Was a Second Team All-RMAC selection after posting a scoring average of 73.58 in 24 rounds... Competed in all eight of the Mavs' tournaments, posting back-to-back top-10 finishes... Was tied for seventh at both the Southern Colorado Masters and the RMAC Championships... Led CMU in both... Also led the Mavs with a tie for 16th at the Las Vegas Desert Classic... Had a 54-hole best of 214 at the Southern Colorado Masters... Had a low round of 68 at the RJGA South Central Preview in the fall, helping him to the first of four top-20 finishes.
Prep: 2020 graduate of Centro Innovacion Educativa de Mexico… Recorded several wins in regional (Golf Zona Centro) tournaments while earning numerous top 10 and 15 finishes in national tournaments… Won multiple long drive contests and competed at the Interzonas, one of the most important junior level tournaments in Mexico, a right earned by the top five in each region… Had two top 10 finishes in TJGT tournaments and a top 10 in an AJGA event… Finished in the top 15 at the Teen World Championships.
Personal: Is majoring in fitness and health promotion… Son of Martha Alicia Gonzalez Avanedano… Has an older sister Princesa… Enjoys mountain biking, hiking, tennis and basically every sport… Also likes to view art and natural monuments.
Why I Chose CMU: “The reason that I choose CMU was because of the size of the university, the location, and primarily because of Coach (Scott) Sullivan and the golf team. I like the history of the golf team and how the team is growing every year. I love the relationship of the team. I want to break records in CMU golf history. I choose CMU because I want to prove myself and CMU that we could be the best team in Division II.”
