No. 15 Mavericks Put Undefeated Record to the Test Against Davenport, No. 11 Rockhurst

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The undefeated Colorado Mesa Maverick men's lacrosse team will put their 5-0 record to the test this week as they set out to play Davenport University on Thursday in Pueblo, Colo. for a neutral site game before returning home Sunday to play Rockhurst University.

Thursday's game will take place at 4 pm and Sunday's game will begin at noon on Walker Field.

All About the Mavericks

The Mavericks are off to the best start in program history since 2018 and could match a program best six game win streak to begin the season with a win against Davenport on Wednesday.

This season 25 different Mavericks have recorded goals and 14 different players have recorded multiple goals. Freshman AJ Switzer has recorded a team high 11 goals this season while James Booth leads the team in points (31) and assists (21).

Booth is averaging 4.20 assists per game, which is the second most assists per game in the nation.

Freshman Cole Emmanuel leads the team with 48 ground balls and has won 82.1 percent of his face offs which ranks second in the nation among all Division II opponents. Colin Seedorf has recorded the second highest amount of ground balls this season (31) and won 78.7 percent of his faceoffs.

As a team the Mavericks are winning 80.7 percent of their faceoffs (109-of-135) which is the third highest winning percentage in the country.

RMAC Players of the Week

The Mavericks have swept every RMAC Player of the Week awards this season. As a graduate transfer, Booth has received Offensive Player of the Week (Feb 17 and 24) on back-to-to back occasions and Denver, Colo. native Emmanuel has received Defensive Player of the Week (Feb 10 and 24) twice this season.

Seedorf earned Defensive Player of the Week (Feb 17) once and Johnny Cary won Offensive Player of the Week (Feb 10) back in week one.

National Rankings

The Mavericks have continuously improved in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and reached their highest rank of the season at No. 15 which was released Mar 1. The Mavericks were picked No. 20 in the preseason poll (Jan 28) and were ranked No. 16 last week.

The Mavericks have two nationally ranked opponents on their schedule including No. 11 Rockhurst who will travel to Grand Junction, Colo. on Mar 8 for a game and No. 4 Tampa who the Mavericks will see on their spring break trip to Florida on Mar 18.

Also on that trip the Mavs are scheduled to play Lynn University who is receiving votes by the USILA as of this week.

Scouting Davenport

The Panther are off to a 0-3 start to the season and have played one nationally ranked opponent, Seton Hill, who was ranked No. 7 at the time. In that game the Panthers fell 20-1. After that they lost to Lincoln Memorial 19-11 and Lewis University 13-6.

Senior Blake Gibson-McDonald leads the team with eight points which consists of three goals and five assists. Freshman Keelan McKouen has recorded a team high 25 shots and a team high 13 shots on goal.

In the net Daniel Milano has seen every minute of action and recorded 41 saves with a 17.33 goals against average. As a freshman he has recorded a 44.1 saves percentage.

Thursday's game will mark the first time in program history the Mavericks will play Davenport who is based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Scouting Rockhurst

The Hawks of Rockhurst have yet to lose a game this season and are 5-0 to begin the year. They have defeated two nationally ranked opponents which included defeating No. 5 Benedictine College on Feb 1, 18-4 and most recently defeating No. 20 Lynn 14-9 on Feb 29.

The Mavericks are 8-1 all time against the Hawks and have defeated them in three of the previous four matchups. In the most recent game the Mavericks won 10-9 in Kansas City, Mo. The only time the Mavs have lost to Rockhurst was in 2017 by a score of 11-10.

When playing at home the Mavericks are a perfect 5-0.

Rockhurst is led by junior Sam Lindahl who has a team high 21 points which consists of a team high 15 goals and six assists. Two players for the Hawks have nine assists to lead the team.

The Hawks have outscored their opponents 74-37 so far this season and recorded a total of 49 assists. Their number one face off player is senior Zach Bodeau has won 75.4 percent (46-of-61) of his faceoffs.

As a team the Hawks are winning 68.5 percent (87-127) of their faceoffs.

The Mavericks will travel to Florida over spring break for games against Lynn University and University of Tampa on March 14 and March 16.
