GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— After dominating their season-opener, the Colorado Mesa University women's swimming team will continue their season with a Thursday matinee dual against the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
The contest will begin at 2 p.m. in the Bears' Butler-Hancock Pool.
Fans will not be permitted to attend although they can watch the action through UNC's live stream, which can be
accessed here. Live results will
also be posted here.
Meet Details/Scoring
Thursday's dual will be contested in the default 16-event format, beginning and ending with relay events. However, diving will not be contested and thus only 14 events will be held.

Dominating Start
The Mavericks opened their 2020-21 season with a dominating effort in last Saturdays' home dual with Western Colorado. CMU had the top three performers in 15 of the 16 events and went 1-2-4 in the other (1000 free) during a 190-90 team win. The Mavericks exhibitioned all of their swimmers in each of the last four events as the easily extended their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual-meet winning streak to 23, which dates back to a Jan. 22, 2016 win over the Mountaineers.
Record-Setting Debut
Maverick junior
Lily Borgenheimer had an impressive CMU debut in Saturday's dual as she set the Maverick record in the 200-yard breaststroke while touching first in all three of her events. The 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship runner-up while at Minnesota State posted a NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time of 2:16.77 (2:15.57-altitude adjusted) in her specialty to win the event by nearly 14 seconds while breaking the 5-plus year old record of 2:17.19 (altitude-adjusted), which had been held by Miranda Reetz.
Borgenheimer, who is a U.S. Olympic Trails qualifier in the 200-meter (long course) breaststroke, also won the 50-yard freestyle on Saturday in 24.95 seconds and touched first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.34 (2:08.14-altitude adjusted), which moves her into the No. 10 spot in program history in that discipline.
RMAC Honors
For their efforts in Saturday's dual, Borgenheimer and CMU junior diver
Jolynn Harris were recognized as the RMAC's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. Borgenheimer had also been honored with a similar honor by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference during her 2018-19 sophomore season at Minnesota State.
Harris, who won the 3-meter event on Saturday with a score of 258.98 points, a new 6-dive format personal-best, is now a 4-time RMAC Diver of the Week honoree. She also finished second in the 1-meter event behind teammate and returning all-American
Ali Lange.
National Leaders
Although it is early in the season and many teams have yet to compete, the Mavericks have combined to lead the NCAA Division II top times report in no less than eight different events, including both relays that they have contested.
Borgenheimer, who is the only swimmer nation-wide to have set a NCAA "B" cut time in any event thus far, leads the country in both the 200 breast and the 200 IM. Her 200 breast time is nearly 11 seconds faster (10.84) than the next fastest Division Ii swimmer (Annika Hofer, Truman State, 2:26.41).
Here's a look at all the national-leading Mavericks as of Tuesday.

First Time Winner
Maverick sophomore
Emily Moreland claimed the first event win of her collegiate career on Saturday as she won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.27 (1:07.17-altitude adjusted), a time that ranks her third in Division II. The Rocky Ford native who previously swam for La Junta High School was the 2018 Colorado 3A State Champion in that event.
Double-Winners
CMU's Lauren Wright, a 4-event all-American as a freshman in 2019-20, had a strong start to her sophomore campaign as well as she won both the 100 back (57.57) and 100 free (53.77) in Saturday's dual against Western Colorado to join Borgenheimer as the winners of two individual events.
Meanwhile, seniors
Grace Payton and
Maddie Pressler and junior
Abbey Selin also won two total events a piece, at least unofficially. Payton and Pressler each touched first during an individual event while swimming legs on the Mavs' 200 medley relay, which kicked-off the winning spree on Saturday. Payton swam the opening back-stroke leg in a national-leading split of 27.22 seconds before touching first in the 100 fly with an exhibition swim time of 58.90 (58.80-altitude adjusted) seconds, a new personal-best. Payton also had 200 fly time trial effort of 2:16.02 in her first career attempt at that discipline.
Meanwhile, Pressler won the 200 free in 1:57.21 after swimming the butterfly leg on the medley relay team.
Selin was also a part of two unofficial victories later in the meet after the Mavs exhibitioned all of their swimmers in each of the final four events. She touched first in the 500 free with an exhibition time of 5:22.52 while helping the Mavs post the top time in the 400 free relay (3:36.21). She had also finished second in the 1000 free behind CMU winner
Robyn Naze.
Top 10 for Czech Freshman
CMU freshman Katarina Matoskova, who hails from the city of Liberic in the Czech Republic, posted a time of 2:11.51 to finish behind Maverick senior
Isabelle Hansson in the 200 butterfly at Saturday's meet. Matoskova's altitude-adjusted time of 2:10.31 moved her into the No. 10 spot in CMU history for that discipline. Hansson, a product of Stockholm, Sweden, ranks sixth in Maverick history with her 2019-20 season best of 2:05.76. She won Saturday's race in 2:11.09. Hansson and Matoskova are the only two swimmers on the Maverick women's roster from outside the U.S. this year.
About the Bears
Thursday's meet will be the first of the season for the Bears, and in fact will be UNC's first athletic event in any sport since March, due to the CoVID-19 pandemic. In 2019-20, the Bears went 2-5 in dual meets and finished sixth amongst eight teams at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Houston, Texas.
Petra Kis won the 400-yard individual medley WAC title for the second straight year last season while Madelyn Moore also earned a spot on the All-WAC first team in the 50 free. Returners Tori Sayers (1-meter diving), Paula Nunez Blazquez (400 IM & 200 Back) and Natalie Kayfes (1650 free) were All-WAC second team honorees in 2019-20.
Lisa Ebeling is entering her fifth season as the Bears' head coach and led UNC to a third place finish at the WAC Championships in 2018-19, equal to their best.
Series History/Last Time we Met
The Bears have won nine of the previous ten duals between the teams, although the Mavericks won the last meeting, which was nearly four years ago on Nov. 12, 2016, during Ebeling's first season, in Golden, Colorado. CMU posted a 145-116 win over the Bears on the day during a triangular with and hosted by the Colorado School of Mines.
CMU has only gone to Greeley on one previous occasion (Nov. 15, 2013). UNC won that day by a 129-99 score although the Mavericks defeated Mines in the other leg of the triangular.
Up Next
The Mavericks will return home to host the A3 Performance Invitational from Nov. 19-21, which is slated to be CMU's final meet of the 2020 calendar year.
