Much like their male counterparts, the Colorado Mesa University women's swimming and diving team is a program on the rise. After finishing second in five of six Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships from 2012-18, the Mavericks broke through for their first conference crown in 2019 before setting a championship scoring record in a successful title defense in 2019-20.
The Mavericks have also posted an impressive 59-7-1 RMAC dual meet record mark since the program-began in 2005-06 and enter 2020-21 as winners of their last 22 straight conference duals since the 2015-16 season.
Steadily climbing up the ladder at the national level, the Mavericks capped the 2010's with a program-best 16
th place finish at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championships and were poised for even more in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, which led to the cancelation of the meet mid-stream.
Since earning their first in 2014, the Mavericks have garnered 27 First Team CSCAA All-America honors along with a multitude of other accomplishments, a good chunk of which have been claimed by the 15-member all-decade team presented below.
Cassi Blakeman – Diving (2015-17)- The Mesa, Arizona product earned three First Team CSCAA All-America honors in her two seasons on the squad while being named as the 2016-17 RMAC Diver of the Year after finishing eighth in both the 1 and 3-meter diving events at the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships after finishing seventh on the 1-meter as a freshman. She also earned all four possible All-RMAC awards in her two seasons and was a CSCAA Scholar All-American after both.
Marissa Bradley (Sprint Freestyle, 2013-17)- The Fort Collins, Colorado native anchored the Mavericks' RMAC Championship 200 medley relay squad in 2015 and ranks amongst the program's top 10 in all three of the sprint freestyle events. She is also a multiple-time All-RMAC performer and earned three CSCAA Scholar All-America awards, including a first team selection as a senior in 2017.
Brittany Dixon (Diving, 2016-20)- Brittany Dixon graduated as one of the most decorated Maverick divers earning four total CSCAA All-America honors while being named as the RMAC Diver of the Year twice and as the RMAC Championship Diver of the Meet three times. She is also the only Maverick diver to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America team—doing so twice— and was a 4-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.
As a senior in the spring of 2020, Dixon won the RMAC titles on both the 1 and 3-meter boards to earn her third successive RMAC Championship Diver of the Meet award as the Mavs successfully defended their team title with a RMAC Championship point-scoring record. She had won the 3-meter title in 2018 and the 1-meter crown in 2019 as well, setting a RMAC Championship record of 461.55 points in the 1-meter preliminaries in 2019.
The Fargo, North Dakota native, was also named as the RMAC Diver of the Year in both 2017-18 and 2019-20 and earned ten RMAC Diver of the Week awards throughout her career.
Sierra Forbord – Freestyle (2017-19)- The Olympia, Washington native is a 5-event school-record holder and earned four total CSCAA All-America honors in her two seasons as a Maverick. She holds the individual school records in both the 50 (23.37) and 100 (50.25) freestyle and is a member of three record-holding relay teams (200 Free, 400 Free, 400 Medley. In 2019, she led off the Mavs' RMAC title winning 800 free relay team and helped lead the Mavericks to their first conference team title before finishing seventh in the 100 free at that year's national meet to pick up a first team all-America certificate. She is also the only First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history.
Kelly Hogan (Distance Freestyle, 2009-13)- Hogan was named as the RMAC Co-Freshman of the Year at the start of the decade in 2010 after winning the RMAC title in the 1000 free. She also still holds the longest-standing Maverick record of 4:58.80 in the 500 free, which dates back to her 2013 senior season, and still ranks fourth in program history for the 1000 free and sixth for the 200 free. The Crystal Lake, Illinois product competed at two NCAA Championships.
Danielle Jefferies (Breaststroke/Butterfly/IM (2017-19)- After transferring into the Maverick program from LIU-Brooklyn, the Kihei, Maui, Hawai'i native scored in both the 100 fly and 400 medley relay at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championships as a senior to earn a pair of honorable mention all-America honors. She also helped the Mavericks win the 800 free relay at that year's RMAC Championships as CMU won its' first conference team title. She then served as a student assistant coach in 2019-20 as the Mavericks repeated their title winning effort. Jefferies ranks amongst the top four in CMU history in five different events and still holds the 100 fly record of 54.41, which enabled her to finish 11
th at the national meet. She also ranks second behind fellow all-decade team selections Eryn Leonard and
Briana Purkapile in the 200 IM (2:04.47) and 200 fly (2:03.15).
Amanda Jennings – (Diving, 2011-15)- The Colorado Springs native earned six CSCAA All-America honors in her impressive career, more than any other Maverick woman. She capped her career as she tied for sixth at the NCAA Division II National Championships on the 1-meter to earn first team honors.
Eryn Leonard (Butterfly/Freestyle - 2013-17) – The Craig, Colorado native holds the Mavs' 200 fly record of 2:02.79 and earned Honorable Mention CSCAA All-America honors in that event after finishing 15
th at the national championships. She also helped the Mavs win the 2015 RMAC title in the 200 medley relay and ranks second in program history in the 100 fly (55.60). She was also a 2-time First Team and 4-time overall CSCAAA Scholar All-America Team selection.
Jaclyn McMillen – (Backstroke, 2008-12)- The Montrose, Colorado native was CMU's first swimming all-American in 2011 when she earned honorable mention honors in both the 100 and 200 backstroke before repeating the feet as a senior in 2012. She also swept the backstroke titles at the 2011 RMAC Championships and still ranks sixth in Maverick history for both events. She was also a 2-time CSCAA Scholar All-America selection.
Maddie Pressler (Middle Distance Freestyle/Backstroke – 2017-Present)- A native of Mill Creek, Washington, Pressler has been an all-American in the 800 free relay in each of the last three years. She is also the school-record holder in both the 400 and 800 free relays and has won three RMAC relay titles while earning ten total All-RMAC honors in her first three seasons, the last two of which have seen CMU win conference team titles. She also ranks amongst the top eight in program history in five different individual events, standing third in the 200 free at 1:50.89, and is a 3-time CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Briana Purkapile – (Mid Distance/IM, 2010-14)- A versatile swimmer, who still holds the Maverick records in both the 200 and 400 individual medley, Purkapile became CMU's initial first team all-American when she finished eighth in the 400 IM at the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championships. She also earned honorable mention honors and won the RMAC title in the 200 IM that season. She ranks amongst the top 10 in CMU history an impressive eight different events, including her Maverick record times of 2:03.43 and 4:22.09 in the individual medleys.
Miranda Reetz – (Breaststroke/IM, 2013-17)- The Denver native holds the school-record of 2:17.19 in the 200 breaststroke and ranks amongst the top four in three other events. She was a multiple-time All-RMAC performer and helped the Mavs win the 200 medley relay in 2015.
Mary Saiz - (Backstroke, 2014-17) - In her three years as a Maverick after transferring from Utah, Saiz became the most decorated Maverick women's swimmer in program history, earning four first team and six overall CSCAA All-America honors. The Pueblo, Colorado native also won three individual and four overall conference titles taking both the 100 and 200 back in 2016 while setting a still standing RMAC and pool record time of 1:58.01 in the longer event. Her altitude-adjusted mark of 1:56.81 is also a school-record.
In 2016, she went on to finish as the national runner-up in the 200 back, the highest NCAA Championship finish for any Maverick in program-history. She finished fifth in the 200 back in 2015 and 2017 as well and took sixth in the 100 back as a junior in 2016. She won the RMAC title in the 100 back that year as well after helping the Mavs claim their first relay conference crown in 2015 when they won the 200 medley relay.
Saiz also ranks second in program-history for the 100 back (55.18), fourth in the 50 free (23.67) and fifth in the 200 free (1:51.07).
Kelsey Vreeman- Diving (2016-18)- In her two-plus years on the team, Vreeman earned four total, including three First Team CSCAA All-America honors. The Loveland, Colorado still holds the Maverick records for both six (300.10) and 11 (509.25) dives on the 3-meter board and finished fourth at the national meet in that event as a sophomore in 2018 after placing sixth as a freshman. She also took eighth on the 1-meter at the 2018 NCAA Division II Championships in 2018.
Samantha White - (Sprint Freestyle/Breaststroke, 2016-20)- The Manitou Springs, Colorado native had a consistent and fruitful career, highlighted by a CSCAA First Team All-America honor as a senior in the 200 breast and an honorable mention honor in the 400 medley relay as a junior in 2019. She also won RMAC titles in the 400 medley relays that year and was a 16-time overall All-RMAC performer. Individually, she holds the school-record of 1:03.28 in the 100 breaststroke and ranks second in both the 200 breast and 50 free. She was also a 4-time overall and 3-time CSCAA Scholar All-America.
