GWANGJU, South Korea— Colorado Mesa University's 4-time NCAA Division II National Diving Champion Ammar Hassan will again represent his native Egypt at the FINA World Championships, which begin Friday here at the Nambu University Municipal Aquatics Center.
 
Hassan also represented Egypt at the 2017 World Championships in Budadpest, Hungary before joining the Maverick program months later and also competed in a FINA Diving Grand Prix event earlier this spring.
 
This weekend, he is slated to compete in the 1-meter individual and 3-meter men's synchronized springboard events.
 
The preliminary round of the 1-meter event is slated for 11 a.m. local time on Friday (8 p.m. Thursday evening Mountain).  The top 12 divers will advance to Sunday's final at 3:30 p.m. local time (12:30 a.m. Mountain).  The 3-meter synchronized event will be contested entirely on Saturday with the preliminary round slated for 10 a.m. local time (7 p.m. Mountain on Friday).  The top 12, two-man teams will contest the final at 8:45 p.m. Saturday (5:45 a.m. Mountain).
 
In the first two years of his collegiate career, Hassan swept the 1 and 3-meter NCAA Division II titles in both 2018 and 2019 and was named as the CSCAA NCAA Division II Diver of the Year after both meets.

In the synchronized event, Hassan will again team with Arizona State University junior Youseff Selim.  They also paired at Egyptian national championships in December, 2018.  Selim was a Pac-12 champion and honorable mention Division I all-American this spring and is the brother of former Maverick swimmer Saif Ezzat Sayed.
