#1 Mavericks Ready For NCAA South Central Regional

Colorado Mesa is making their 11th straight NCAA appearance

WEEKEND RECAP
Colorado Mesa won their sixth straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament title after winning the tournament in four straight games. They led the tournament in both batting average (.362) and ERA (2.75) on their way to the title. Catcher Spencer Bramwell was named the tournament MVP after batting .667 with five runs scored, five runs driven in and two home runs in the tournament.

BACK TO THE POSTSEASON
The NCAA Postseason has nearly been a given for the Colorado Mesa Mavericks over the past several years. They are now making their 11th straight appearance and have made it in 15 of the past 16 seasons into the NCAA Tournament. The Mavericks won regional title in 2009, 2014, and 2017 but things have changed this year with the addition of the Super Regional this year. The top two teams from the split regional sites will play a best-of-three series for a trip to the National Championships this year.

REGION HONORS
One All-Region team has been published with two more still to go. Three Mavericks earned D2CCA All-Region First Team honors. RMAC Pitcher of the Year Garrett Hutson, closer Will Dixon and first baseman Jordan Stubbings all earned All-South Central Region First Team honors and are now eligible for their All-American Team. Hutson went 10-1 with a 2.56 ERA while Dixon led the RMAC in saves with 12. Stubbings is currently second on the team in batting average at .358 with 16 doubles and 13 homers.

INFIELD SHIFT
If you havent made it to a game or watched one online in the past two weeks, you have missed the rearrangement of the infield. Chase Hamilton bumped to shortstop, Caleb Farmer slid over to third base and Dominic DeMarco has moved to second base. All three have shined with the move and made just two errors during the RMAC Tournament.

CALL TO THE PEN
The Mavericks allowed just two runs out of the bullpen in 10.1 innings during the RMAC Tournament. Gage Edwards allowed just one hit in two appearances while Dixon recorded two saves and pitched 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts and two hits allowed.

YOUTH MOVEMENT
Conrad Villafuerte had just one at-bat in the RMAC Tournament but it may have been one of the biggest at-bats of the tournament for the Mavericks. The Fountain Valley, Calif. native beat out an infield single to start the two-run rally against Dixie State in the tournament semifinals.

THE STREAK OF 40
The Mavericks finished last season with a 43-16 overall record making it six straight seasons that Colorado Mesa has won 40 or more games. With their win over Dixie State on Friday evening, the Mavericks made it seven straight seasons of 40 wins. The high mark during the streak came in the 2017 season where the team won 50 games and reached the NCAA Championship Final Four that included a win over No. 1 ranked Delta State.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
Colorado Mesa continued its reign on the top of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper coaches poll for the fifth straight week. They moved up to second on the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's poll after leap-frogging Angelo State in the NCAA South Central Regional rankings and are behind North Greenville, the Southeast Region top seed. Perfect Game did not update their rankings so the Mavericks continue to be ranked No. 3.

THE SKIPPER
Head coach Chris Hanks enters his 21st season guiding the Mavericks and has an impressive 876-353 record, the most wins from a coach in program history. The Carbondale, Colo. native won his 850th game as the Maverick skipper on March 16, 2019 in an 11-0 win over No. 9 Colorado School of Mines. He has led Colorado Mesa to three region championships, a feat that has earned him ABCA Region Coach of the year three times now. This season he was named the RMAC Coach of the Year for the 11th time in his tenure.

UP NEXT
If the Mavericks win the NCAA SOuth Central Region I tournament, they will advance to the South Central Region Super Regional next week. They will be on the road for that tournament at the highest remaining seed from the group of teams that include Angelo State, Rogers State, and Lubbock Christian.
