Mavs Face Adams State and CSU-Pueblo in RMAC Regular Season Finale

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Mavericks will close out the regular season playing against both Adams State and CSU-Pueblo. First the Mavs will travel to Alamosa, Colo. for a game against Adams State at 3 pm on Friday at the ASU Lacrosse Field. That Sunday the team will travel to Pueblo, Colo. for a match up against the ThunderWolves at noon on the Rawlings Field.

The Mavericks are 7-7 on the season and an even 2-2 in conference play. They are recently coming off a loss from Westminster College which occurred at Walker Field. The Mavericks were outscored 14-10 in that game and remain two games behind Westminster who is 4-0 in conference and sitting in first place.

Senior Jack Griffin leads the Mavericks with 57 points and has totaled 38 goals and 19 assists. His 2.71 goals per game rank third among RMAC opponents and his 1.36 assists per game rank fourth. Griffin is averaging the most shots in the RMAC at 8.71 per game.

Fellow senior Brandon Wilson has totaled 39 points which is eighth best in the RMAC as he is averaging 2.79 points per game. 14 of his season goals (24) have occurred in the last four games. In three of those four games he has recorded three or more goals.

For conference games Wilson leads the team with 10 goals, and is followed by Joe Wulforst IV who has nine and Griffin who has recorded seven.

On the defensive end Michael Marino leads the team with 104 ground balls. Austin Bullock has recorded the next best at 36 and has caused ten turnovers. Ryder Clark leads the team with 19 caused turnovers.

 Scouting Adams State

The Grizzlies are in last place of the RMAC standings (3-7, 0-4) and are currently on a three game losing streak which includes their loss to the Mavericks on April 14. Before that game they fell to Westminster College 12-6 and most recently they are coming off a loss from CSU-Pueblo by a score of 16-13.

The team is led by Tanner Breck who has 28 points on the season with 15 goals and 13 assists. Kale Wilson leads the team in goals with 17 and has totaled six assists.

The Grizzlies have used five goalies this year who have a combined 130 saves. Connor Johnson has recorded 106 saves.

Johnson recorded 27 saves last time out against the Mavericks.

Scouting CSU-Pueblo

The ThunderWolves are currently 7-5 and 2-2 in conference. In their most recent game they defeated Adams State 16-13 in Alamosa, Colo. Before playing the Mavericks on Sunday April 28 at noon they will take on Westminster on Friday at 5 pm.

Anthony Ferrie leads the team with 53 points and has totaled 29 goals and 24 assists. He is currently shooting on goal at a 64.0 clip and has recorded three man-up goals while totaling 28 ground balls.

Defensive man Parker Evans has caused 17 turnovers and grabbed 34 ground balls.

In the Thunderwolves and Mavericks last meeting the Mavs won 21-7 and senior Brandon Wilson recorded a career-high five goals.

Next Up

The RMAC Tournament will take place Friday May 3rd and 4th in Salt Lake City.
