No. 14 Mavs Set to Face Adams State on Sunday

Game time set for 2 pm on Sunday April 14

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The nationally ranked Mavericks (10-2, 4-2) will return to Walker Field this Sunday after falling to Regis University last weekend. Regis snapped a program-tying seven game win streak that dated back to March 13. The Mavericks will look to bounce back against Adams State University on Sunday April 14 at 2 pm. The game will be a part of a CMU lacrosse double header as the men's team will take on Adams State at 11 am prior to the women's game at 2 pm.

The Mavericks are currently tied for third place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference behind Lindenwood (12-0, 4-0) and Regis University (11-0, 4-0). The Mavericks are tied with Rockhurst who is 7-6 overall and 4-2 in conference games.

A Look at the Mavs

The Mavericks have recorded 192 goals this season and are shooting at a 50.8 percent clip. Their shots on goal percentage is currently 30.2 percent and as a team the Mavs are averaging 31.5 shots per game.

Senior duo Erin Koehler and Olivia Hayden currently lead the nation in caused turnovers per game with 3.83 a game. Hayden is also third best in DII averaging 5.17 ground balls per game while Koehler sits behind her in the fourth spot averaging 5.00 ground balls per game.

On the offensive end Paige Elliott is ranked second among all DII women's lacrosse players averaging 3.91 assists per game and Hayden is third best averaging 9.17 draw controls per game.

14 different Mavericks have recorded goals this season and nine of them have accumulated ten or more goals 12 games into the season.

This season Hayden has totaled 46 draw controls and has 345 in her career.

As a team the Mavericks rank fourth in the nation in both assists per game (9.33) and ground balls per game (28.50). The Mavericks' 15.42 caused turnovers per game is third best in the country.

National Rankings

In this week's Intercollegiate Women's Coaches Association DII Coaches Poll the Mavericks dropped back to T-No. 14 along with Mercy.  Regis University stayed at No. 9 and Lindenwood sits at No. 3.

In the media poll named US Lacrosse Magazine the Mavericks rank No. 17 which is three spots back from where they ranked the previous week.  

Scouting Adams

The Grizzlies from Alamosa, Colo. are seeking their first win of the season as they are currently 0-8 overall and 0-4 in conference. They will face Fort Lewis College on Friday before traveling to Walker Field for a game against the Mavericks on Sunday at 2pm. In their most recent game against UCCS they were shutout for the fourth time this season.

The Mavericks are a perfect 16-0 against the Grizzlies and have faced them 11 times in conference play.

In their last meeting on April 27 of the 2018 season the Mavericks defeated ASU 20-1.

Next Up

The Mavericks will play Westminster College in Salt Lake City on April 20 at 1 pm and will close out the regular season April 26 against Fort Lewis College at 4 pm on Walker Field.

The Mavericks will celebrate the team's seniors prior to the game against Fort Lewis.
