Mavericks Resume RMAC Play Against CSU-Pueblo, Adams State

Games will begin at 7 pm on Friday and 11 am on Sunday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 5-6 Maverick men's lacrosse team will resume RMAC play this Friday and Sunday against CSU-Pueblo and Adams State, respectively. The game on Friday against CSU-Pueblo will take place at Walker Field at 7 pm. The game on Sunday is a part of a lacrosse double header with the men's team taking the field at 11 am and the women's taking the field at 2 pm. Both teams will be playing Adams State.

The Mavericks have only seen one RMAC opponent this far in the season which resulted in a loss to Westminster by a score of 14-8. With their 0-1 record they sit third behind CSU-Pueblo (6-2, 1-0) and Westminster (4-6, 1-0). Behind the Mavs and in last place is Adams State who is 3-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.

The Mavs are led by Jack Griffin who has totaled 48 points this season with 33 goals and 15 assists. His 3.00 goals per game is third best in the RMAC and his 1.36 assists per game is fifth best.

Senior Brandon Wilson is next best for the Mavericks with 27 points which is made up of 14 goals and 13 assists.

As the Mavericks' number one faceoff man Michael Marino leads the team in ground balls picking up 74 this season. He is winning 54.0 percent of faceoffs and went 23-of-24 in his last outing. 

Scouting CSU-Pueblo

The ThunderWolves are currently on a three game win streak after defeating Southwestern, Notre Dame de Namur and Johnson and Wales University.

CSUP leads the RMAC in goals per game (16.44) and assists per game (9.67).

Taylor Davis leads the team and the RMAC with 3.78 goals per game. He has tallied 34 goals this season and assisted on five other goals. Jacob Muir leads the team with 74 ground balls and has recorded two goals along with two assists.

As one of three goalkeepers to play this season for the ThunderWolves Ethan Ferrie has accumulated a 3-0 record and a 10.19 goals against average. His 44 saves this season leads the team and he is recording saves at a 55.7 percent clip.

Scouting Adams State

The Grizzlies will take on Westminster College on April 12 before facing the Mavericks on Sunday at 11 am in Grand Junction. They have faced two ranked opponents this season and lost to both teams. At the time No. 14 Rockhurst University defeated them 28-6 and then the next week they fell to No. 14 Lindenwood who defeated them 9-14.

The Grizzlies have only played CSU-Pueblo in conference play and were defeated 12-11.

They are led by Tanner Beck who has 21 points this season which is good enough for 12 goals and nine assists.

On the defensive end Roman Pepelyaey has totaled 26 ground balls and Brennan Grass has totaled eight caused turnovers.

In the net Connor Johnson has accumulated the most minutes and has a goals against average of 9.57 and has recorded 51 saves on 155 shots faced.

Next Up

The Mavericks will face Westminster College April 20 at 2pm on Walker Field before closing out the RMAC season on the road against Adams State and CSU-Pueblo the following weekend.
