WICHITA FALLS, Texas— The Colorado Mesa University Women's Tennis team received a doubles win from
Georgia Hansen and
Maike Waldburger but were defeated 7-0 by Angelo State University in neutral-court NCAA Division II South Central Regional action on Saturday at the Midwestern State University Tennis Center.
The Mavericks fell to 3-9 and are still in search of the first win of the spring while the Rambelles, ranked eighth in the region as of the Jan. 16 Oracle/ITA rankings, improved to 10-2.
Hansen and Waldburger won their No. 3 doubles match, 7-6 after winning seven of the 11 points in the tiebreaker. They defeated Lucie Maitrot and Maria Delgadillo.
However, the Rambelles won the other two doubles matches to take the first point. They then won all singles matches.
Waldburger also won the second set in her No. 6 singles match against Maitrot but dropped a 10-4 tiebreaker after the players had each won sets, 7-5.
Rebecca Osterberg also won the second set of her No. 3 singles match against Delgadillo. However, the Mexican triumphed 10-8 in a tight tiebreaker after taking the first set 6-2. Osterberg won the second, 6-4.
The Mavericks will head to California next week for their spring break trip, playing five matches in four days, starting next Saturday (Mar. 16) at No. 12 Azusa Pacific.
