TAMPA, Fla. – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks are taking a spring break trip to Florida for a two game stint against Florida teams starting Wednesday against the University of Tampa at 6 pm. The team will end the trip with a game against Florida Southern College on Sunday March 24th at 10 am. Each of these Florida teams are receiving votes in the United States Intercollege Lacrosse Association along with the Mavericks.
The Mavericks sit 3-3 overall and are coming off a 12-8 loss to Rollins College.
Jack Griffin who leads the Mavericks with 14 goals currently sits at 100 goals on his career and is only the second ever Mavericks to do so. This season he has totaled three hat tricks and a season high five goals against Lindenwood.
Michael Marino was recently named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week which was announced by conference officials on Monday March 18th. He won 17-of-24 faceoffs against Rollins and picked up four ground balls. As the Mavericks number one faceoff guy Marino has won 64-of-127 faceoffs and totaled 29 ground balls.
Scouting Tampa
The Spartans are currently 4-4 after recently defeating Westminster 17-11 in Tampa. They have faced three ranked opponents so far this season and are 1-3 against them. Their one win against ranked opponents comes against Lenior-Rhyne on February 23.
This team is averaging 13.00 goals per game and have totaled 104 on this season. #18 Colin White and #42 Andrew Kew lead the Spartans with 21 and 19 goals each.
The Spartans have used four goalkeepers this season but #15 B.J. Borowski has started each of their seven games and has made 60 saves in his 275:09 minutes in the net.
Scouting Florida Southern
The Mocs of Florida Southern are currently on a three game win streak and will face Belmont Abbey before they face the Mavericks on Sunday in Lakeland, Florida. Both the Mavericks and Florida Southern have faced Lynn University and were able to walk out with a win.
As a team the Mocs are 5-3 overall and led by #8 Sean Nolan who has 24 goals on the season. In the net they rely on freshmen Maxwell Freestone who has 76 saves and a 10.62 goals against average.

The Mavericks will return to Grand Junction and face Notre Dame De Namur on March 27 in Grand Junction at Walker Field. The Mavericks previously defeated NDNU 30-5 in Belmont, Calif.
The Mavericks will open up RMAC play in Salt Lake City against Westminster College on April 6th.
