No. 20 Sea Lions sweep women's tennis battle

SAN DIEGO, Calif.— The nation's 20th ranked Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions claimed a 6-0 win over the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks in non-conference women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Sea Lions did not drop a set and improved to 7-3 with their third straight shutout win while the Mavericks dropped to 4-12 overall while wrapping up their 4-day trip to California with a 1-3 mark.

Kristen Kirby and Emily Beckley fared best for the Mavericks, pushing Ellie Gamble and Gabi Armas, who eventually pulled out a 7-5 win.  Kirby also battled with Shelby Groeneveld in the No. 1 singles match before dropping the first set 6-4.  Kirby was leading the second set 3-2 when the match was left unfinished.

The Mavericks are now off until Apr. 5 when they will play a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference encounter at MSU Denver.
