OGDEN, Utah— Senior Will Agritelley won his No. 6 singles match 6-4, 6-2 over Keith McMullin to give the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team its lone point in a Saturday afternoon dual against Division I Weber State on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks also got a No. 3 doubles win from
Max Lindqvist and
Christian Albrechtsen by a 6-3 score over Cezary Walkusz and McMullin but dropped the other two doubles matches to fall a point behind going into the singles.
The Wildcats then won five of the six singles matches to take the 6-1 overall win, their first of the campaign.
Agritelley's victory was his team-leading fifth singles win of the year.
"We were better today," CMU Coach
Dan MacDonald said. "Our doubles teams moved better on the court and the guys were working the points better in the singles."
The Mavericks fell to 2-3 overall and to 0-2 on their Division I weekend after Saturday's match but will return to their level next week facing former Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Western New Mexico in a NCAA Division II South Central Region affair on neutral courts next Saturday in St. George, Utah.
"We got what we wanted from this weekend and now need to use it moving forward," MacDonald added about the weekend as a whole which also included a Friday night match at Idaho State.
