GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's soccer team (10-4-3, 8-3-3 RMAC) defeated Adams State (1-14-1, 1-12-1 RMAC) Sunday afternoon in the final RMAC regular season game of the year by a score of 1-0. Niall Shaffery scored the lone goal of the game to secure the win. The Mavericks finished the season third in the RMAC standings with 27 conference points and will host Fort Lewis College Nov 8 at 3 pm in a quarterfinals match of the 2019 RMAC Tournament.
In today's game against the Grizzlies, the Mavericks took a season high 24 shots and recorded seven shots on goal. Ramses Atahualpa recorded a game high six shots while Tristan Widic and Nick Rizzo recorded two shots on goal each to lead the Mavs.
The Mavericks and Grizzlies were without a score the entire first half, but it did not take long for Shaffery to record the game winning goal in the 53rd minute of the match. He netted his second goal of the season and gave Atahualpa his fifth assist of the year.
Brendan Brown recorded his sixth shutout of the season in today's game after recording three saves to keep the Grizzlies scoreless.

The Maverick's season will continue next Friday against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks as they host a quarterfinal match of the 2019 RMAC Tournament on Walker Field. The Mavericks will enter the Tournament as the No. 3 seed and host the No. 6 seeded Skyhawks on November 8 at 3 pm.
