GENEVA, Ohio— Colorado Mesa University junior diver Ammar Hassan defeated eight NCAA Division I divers and won the 1-meter crown at the Atlantic 10 Classic on Saturday with an NCAA Division II Championship qualifying score of 348.55 points on six optional dives.

Hassan, the reigning NCAA Division II National Champion, and three other Maverick all-America divers were getting a sneak peek at the SPIRE Institute-Aquatic Center that will also play host to this season's national championships in March.

He won by nearly 60 points as La Salle's Samuel Henninger finished second with 289.10 points while Gerald Hodges of George Mason took third with 280.40.

CMU senior Noah Macomber finished fourth in the 11-man field with 264.80 points while Chandler Livingston finished eighth with 238.10 points.

In the women's 3-meter competition, Mavericks senior Brittany Dixon finished sixth out of 14 divers with 221.70 points.  The other 13 divers, including winner Phoebe Shaya of La Salle (262.80), hail from the Division I ranks.

The Maverick contingent will compete again on Sunday morning with Dixon on the 1-meter and the men on the 3-meter board.
