Maverick Swim/Dive teams sweep initial RMAC weekly awards

Brown, Dixon, Macomber, Rau all honored

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University swimming and diving teams swept all four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference athlete of the week honors, which were announced by conference officials for the first time this season on Wednesday.

On the men's side Torsten Rau was named as the RMAC Swimmer of the Week while Noah Macomber earned Diver of the Week accolades.  Freshman Davy Brown was named as the Women's Swimmer of the Week while Brittany Dixon was tabbed as the Diver of the Week.

Those athletes led the Mavericks in last week's Intermountain Shootout.

Brown, a freshman from Aspen, recorded a pair of top-3 finishes and four RMAC leading times, highlighted by a second place finish in the 400-yard individual medley.  She posted a time of 4:38.17 (4:33.17-altitude adjusted) to move into the No. 9 spot in CMU history for that event.  She also leads the RMAC in the 50 back (27.35), 200 back (2:06.44) and 200 IM (2:09.38).

Dixon, a senior from West Fargo, North Dakota, who won four Diver of the Week honors last year, won both diving events last weekend, setting an NCAA qualifying score of 255.90 points on six dives off the 1-meter board on Saturday after tallying 233.45 points on the 3-meter last Friday.

Meanwhile, Rau, who was a 3-time RMAC Swimmer of the Week last year, turned in three conference-leading times and three top-5 finishes, including an individual victory last weekend.  The Sandhausen, Germany junior won the 500 free in 4:41.80 (4:36.80) and leads the RMAC in that as well as the 200 (1:41.29) and 1650 free (16:17.20).

Macomber was the top Division II finisher on both the 1 and 3-meter boards at the weekend Intermountain Shootout.  On Friday, he scored 273.25 points on six dives off the 1-meter board to finish second overall amongst 11 divers.  He finished higher than five Division I divers from Air Force and BYU. On Saturday, the senior out of Zeeland, Michigan, scored 269.60 points to finish third out of 12 divers on the 3-meter, defeating four Division I divers in the process.

The Mavericks, who swept last year's RMAC titles and who were picked to defend their titles in 2019-20, will continue their season on Saturday competing in a dual against Division I Denver in the Pioneers' El Pomar Natatorium.
