Mavericks Visit Utah for RMAC Games

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks (7-2-2, 5-1-2 RMAC) will stay on the road after splitting road matches last weekend and travel to Utah to face Westminster and Dixie State. On Friday at 4 pm they will play Westminster College (7-3-2, 5-1-2) on Dumke Field and on Sunday at 1:30 pm they will take on Dixie State (6-5-1, 5-3-0 RMAC) at the Trailblazer Stadium.

These two teams visited Walker Field less than two weeks ago. The Mavericks defeated Dixie State and tied with Westminster.

In RMAC standing the Mavericks are currently in third place behind Colorado School of Mines (6-0-2 RMAC) and Regis University (6-2-0).

The Mavs are entering this weekend on a one game winning streak after recently defeating UCCS 2-0 and recording their fourth shutout of the year, which breaks the top ten in school records for most shutouts in a season.  Senior goalkeeper, Brendan Brown and two-time RMAC Player of the Week has been credited for all four shutouts. He enters the weekend with a 0.67 goal against average and a 84.8 saves percentage, which both rank second in the RMAC.

Lawan Abary and Alec Fronapfel lead the team with three goals each. Ramses Atahualpa is tied with them in points at six and leads the team with four assists. His four assists are fifth best against RMAC opponents.

Scouting Westminster

Danny Darelli of the Griffins leads the RMAC in goals with eight and is tenth in shots per game averaging 2.36. He recorded the opening goal of the game against the Mavericks in their last meeting. Since their last meeting with the Mavs two weeks ago the Griffins tied 0-0 with Colorado School of Mines and defeated South Dakota School of Mines 4-0.

The Griffins have outscored their opponents 23-7 this season and are averaging 1.29 goals per game. There are shooting 51.1 percent of their shots on goal and limiting their opponents to just 0.58 goals per game and 48.1 shots on goal percentage.

In the net, Will Desantis has started each match and has a 88.7 saves percentage which leads the RMAC and is one place ahead of Brown.

Scouting Dixie State

Guglielmo Bianchi leads the team with five goals and Moises Medina leads the team with 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists). As a team, the Trailblazers are taking 13.1 shots per game and averaging 1.58 goals per game. They are limiting opponents to 1.17 goals per game and a 51.5 shots on goal percentage just behind their own percentage of 52.2 percent.

In the net Zach Nielson has played every game and recorded a 83.5 saves percentage for the season.

Up Next

South Dakota Mines and Colorado School of Mines will travel to Grand Junction, Colo. for games on October 25 and 27, respectively. On Friday, the game will begin at 4 pm and on Sunday the game will kickoff at 1:30 pm.
