Mavs Return Home for Two-Game Homestand

Will play two non-conference opponents to open September

GRAND JUNCTION Colo.- After returning from their Texas trip, the Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team wil return to Community Hospital Unity Field for their first two home matches of the year against the University of Jamestown and UC Merced.

The first match will be against Jamestown, with kickoff set for Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. The second match against UC Merced will be on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on the RMAC Network (subscription required), live stats will also be available.

Week in Review
The Mavs opened up the 2026 season against UT Dallas and the number one ranked Midwestern State. During their short trip, the Mavs battled to a 1-1 draw against UT Dallas and were outmatched by Midwestern State 6-1.

Richie Tabares Ochoa would score both goals for the Mavs and Kamden Kooiman would tack on an assist as well. Nathan Beck started both games in goal and made five total saves, Kenneth Linn would also make his first appearance and did not concede a goal. The Mavs will have two chances to grab their first win of the season.

About Jamestown
Thursday will mark the first time the Jimmies will take on the Mavs. The Jimmies are 0-0-2 to start the season as their first game against Morningside resulted in a scoreless draw and their second against South Dakota Mines finished with an exciting 2-2 draw. The Jimmies are fielding a very different squad than last year as they begin to transition from being independent to a member of the GNAC starting in 2027. The Jimmies' leading goal scorers are Sohiab Bouika el Haddad Kaddour and Justin Junaid, who both have one. Nuuti Norhomma leads the team in assists with one. Goalkeeper Valon Ismaili has been putting on a clinic to begin the season as he has only conceded two goals with 18 saves.

About UC Merced
Saturday will also mark the first time the Mavs will face the Bobcats. They opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Dominican and will take on RMAC foe Westminister on Thursday before making the trip to Grand Junction. Their leading scorer is Danny Goana with one but last season's leading scorers Christian Khanishian and Jose Ontiveros will be players to look out for. Khanishian and defender Juan Lara both were both named to the All-CCAA team as honorable mentions. Goalkeeper Abel Calvillo has played all 90 minutes between the sticks and has made two saves while conceding just one goal.

Take A Look Ahead
After the short homestand, the Mavs will make the journey to Idaho to take on Northwest Nazarene on Sept. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at NNU Soccer & Lacrosse Field.
