DENVER— Defending National Champion
Ammar Hassan easily won both the men's 1 and 3-meter events with NCAA Division II Championship qualifying scores to lead the Colorado Mesa University divers in a Friday afternoon dual meet against Division I Denver here at the Pioneers' El Pomar Natatorium.
The Maverick men won the dual, 28-10.
Meanwhile,
Brittany Dixon took second on both board to pace the Maverick women, who fell 26-18 in the team scores.
On the 3-meter board, Hassan scored 326.40 points over six dives to win by 78.15 over DU's Alex Morgan, who scored 248.25 as the lone Pioneer man to compete.
Maverick junior
Noah Macomber, who finished second behind Hassan at last year's NCAA Division II National Championships, made his season-debut and took third on Friday with 240 points while
Chandler Livingston was fourth with 219.90.
On the 1-meter, Hassan tallied 319.50 points over six dives to win by more than 76 over Morgan, who scored 242.63, edging Livingston (242.48) for second. Macomber was fourth with 219.60.
Tanner Belliston finished fifth on both boards for the Mavericks while
Liam Acosta took sixth on the 3-mter and seventh on the 1-meter.
Ross Barringer was the opposite while
Eli Bartlett finished eighth on both.
Dixon scored 244.73 points on the 3-meter and 241.35 on the 1-meter but was narrowly edged by Denver's Zora Opalka on both.
Also competing for the Mavericks were
Abby Smith, who finished fourth on the 1-meter and seventh on the bigger board,
Ali Lange, who was fifth on the 3-meter and seventh on the 1-meter, and
Natalya Dahlke, who finished fifth on the 1-meter and sixth on the 3-meter.
