Women’s Soccer Home Opener

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO - The Mavericks will open up play at Walker Field this Friday Sept 7 against Cal State-East Bay at 7:00 p.m. Following this game they will compete again on Sunday Sept 9 against Humboldt State at 10 a.m.
 
The Mavericks
 
Last weekend the Mavericks went on the road to beat Texas-Permian Basin and Angelo State. The Mavericks have started the season 2-0 which is the best start to any season since 2010. Head coach Jason Clare has been on campus here at Colorado Mesa and significantly improved the program. When he first took over the Mavericks had only won a single game and with each year he stayed the Mavericks record improved. Now the Mavericks are off to their best start of a season in ten years. It's been eight years since the Mavericks have started this well. They will look to continue the success at home this weekend when they battle against Cal-State-East Bay and Humboldt State.
 
About the Pioneers
 
Cal State- East Bay is traveling to Grand Junction, Colo from Hayward, Calif. The Pioneers are currently 3-0 and they have outscored their opponents 7-1. This dominating offensive team is outshooting their opponents 29-12. The Pioneers have recorded eight assists on the season thus far.
 
The Pioneers are coached by head coach Robin Hart. This is her first year at Cal State- East Bay. 
 
About the Jacks
 
The Jacks of Humboldt State currently sit at 1-1 on the season. Prior to this weekend they have beat Dominican University 1-0 and lost to Concordia (Ore.) 0-2. Humboldt State is taking 6.5 shots per game so far and has recorded 5 corner kicks on the season.
 
The Jacks are coached by Paul Karver who is currently in his seventh season. This will be the third meeting between the Jacks and the Mavericks. Each own one win against the other. Last year the Maverick lost to Humboldt State in the season opener with a final score of 1-2.

There will be numerous soccer matches this weekend at Walker field between men and women. For a look at the entire weekend, check out the schedule below. Men will playing on Saturday and the women will play on Friday and Sunday.
