Mavericks Return Home for Matchup with Eagles

Colorado Mesa is 3-0 in RMAC play heading into crucial matchup

Inside the Series vs. Chadron State
Chadron State has owned the all-time series with Colorado Mesa with a commanding 19-8 advantage in the series. The Mavericks have won the past three contests against the Eagles, the longest streak Colorado Mesa has had in the series.

The Eagles enter Saturday's matchup with a 2-1 record with their lone loss coming at the hands of #12 CSU-Pueblo 34-13 back on September 8 in Pueblo. They have defeated both Black Hills State and Fort Lewis at home this season in the newly renovated Elliott Field.

Kevin Coy, Jr. leads the Chadron State rushing attack with 230 yards and three touchdowns while the Eagles have scored in all three phases of the game. Jackson Dickerson has returned a punt 16 yards for a touchdown off a block.

QUICK RECAP
Colorado Mesa came away with a hard fought 24-20 win over Western State on Saturday at the Mountaineer Bowl in Gunnison. The Mavericks rushed for 240 yards on 48 attempts while limiting the Mountaineers to 382 total yards. The defense was able to get to the Mountaineer quarterback six times and limited them to just 6-of-18 on third down.

PASSING RECORD
Senior quarterback Eystin Salum broke the record for passing touchdowns in a career with 32 after his two touchdown day in the win over Western State Colorado last Saturday. Salum surpassed Jake Logue who finished his career with 31 touchdown passes from 1992-1994.

GROUND GAME
The Maverick rushing attack is live and well in the early portion of the season. Colorado Mesa is averaging 242 yards of rushing per game which is the second best mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the 18th best nationally. Salum leads the team in rushing at 304 yards while freshman Pailate Makakona has 240 yards in just three games at running back.

SPREAD THE WEALTH
Colorado Mesa has had 11 different receivers have caught at least one pass this season. Speedster Peter Anderson leads the team in receptions with 15 and receiving yards with 259. Senior Marcus Hines is just three catches away from 100 for his career. The Las Vegas native has seven catches for 68 yards this season.

SACK LUNCH
The defense picked up the pressure in the matchup with Western State. The defense produced six quarterback sacks in the win over Western including three by defensive lineman Chance Drake. Drake's three sacks ties for fifth all-time and is the second best mark since 2011.

PROTECTION
With three new starters this season across the offensive line, Colorado Mesa has had to make sme quick adjustments. The offensive line is averaging just one sack allowed per game this season which is the second best mark in the conference and the 28th best in the NCAA Division II.
