GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Colorado Mesa University safety Gibson Leafgreen has been named to the D2Football.com Elite 100 second team watch list, the organization announced as part of its annual honors recognizing the top players in NCAA Division II football.
 
The full slate includes first- and second-team honorees on offense, defense and special teams, along with 25 "Squad" selections on each side of the ball and was selected by the staff of D2Football.com with input from numerous sitting head coaches and professional football scout Josh Buchanan. The team includes first and second team selections for offense, defense and special teams along with 25 "Squad" players for offense and defense. Squad players are equivalent to "honorable mention" selections in similar national recognition lists.  
 
Leafgreen's recognition caps a standout 2025 season for the Mavericks' defense, where he emerged as a key contributor in the secondary for a Colorado Mesa program built on stout defense and a physical run game. His steady play at safety helped anchor a Mavericks unit that leaned on its defense throughout Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
 
The senior finished the season with 56 total tackles (third on the team), two interceptions, and a sack.
 
Colorado Mesa is set to open the season against perennial power Minnesota State on Thursday August 27 at 6pm from Stocker Stadium.
