PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's tennis team opened their dual season with a split of a pair of opponents at the Pueblo Duals. The Mavericks are competing as an independent this year as the RMAC is not sponsoring men's tennis this season.
In the opener, Texas – Permian Basin earned a 5-2 win over the Mavericks.
Colorado Mesa earned the point for winning two of the three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead.
Lucas Martin and
Alain De La Bastide earned an 8-4 win over Leo Luna and Daniel Colmenares at No 2 doubles while
Steven Howe and
Christian Albrechtsen picked up the 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
De La Bastide earned the only singles win in the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Enrique Sanchez at No. 4 singles.
The Maverick men bounced back with a big 4-3 win over Newman to close out the duals.
Colorado Mesa swept the three doubles matches to earn the point then picked up wins in three of the singles matches for the win.
De La Bastide and Albrechtsen earned straight set wins at No. 3 and No. 6 respectively while Will Agritelley earned a hard fought, three-set win at No. 4 singles to seal the win. Agritelley defeated Marcel Miasato 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 for the dual clinching win.
Colorado Mesa will compete at the ITA Regional Championships in two weeks.
