IRVINE, Calif.— Kasie Gilfert and
Camille Smith combined for 22 error-less kills on just 32 swings as the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks hit an impressive .337 as a team in a bounce-back 3-set sweep (26-24, 25-14, 25-14) of Cal Poly Pomona in their second match of the Concordia Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Gilfert finished the match with 12 kills and hit .632 on 19 swings while Smith was even more efficient, putting down 10 kills on just 13 attempts to hit .769. She also added six blocks while Gilfert recorded five as Mavericks (1-1) held on to a first set win before dominating the second and the third to defeat the Broncos (1-1), who had swept Azusa Pacific earlier in the tournament.

The Mavericks led 24-20 in the opening set before a 4-0 Bronco run tied the score sending the set to extra points.Â

Gilfert then terminated the ensuing point coming out of a timeout with her second kill of the set before a
Katie Scherr service ace gave the Mavericks the set.

The Mavericks then put down 18 kills and hit .567 as a team in the second set before putting down 13 more kills and hitting .333 to close out the sweep.

Ara Norwood finished with 14 assists and five digs while freshman
Hannah Bokal tallied 13 assists and seven digs as part of the Mavericks' 6-2 offense.

Taylor Woods also registered a match-high 15 digs in the match after recording 32 in the tournament-opener against Cal State-L.A. She is now just eight digs away from tying Ashley Loftsgard's rally-scoring (2001-Present) school-record of 1,578 career digs, a mark she will likely surpass on Saturday when the Mavericks resume the tournament against Azusa Pacific and the host Concordia-Irvine Eagles at noon and 9 p.m. MDT (11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Pacific), respectively on Saturday.
