Colorado Mesa University has their final regular season game of the 2018 season on Saturday. A win against Westminster College (WC) would give the Mavericks a perfect conference record for the season for the first time in program history, as well as it would stretch their win streak out to eight games heading into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament.
Â
When the Mavericks last met the Griffins, it was at Walker Field, and CMU narrowly escaped with a 13-12 victory. That came thanks to a
Calen Ketcham goal with 25.7 seconds remaining to lift CMU. That win began this current seven-game win streak.
Â
Since that game, the Mavericks have dominated nearly every opponent they have come up against. They have only had one game decided by fewer than 10 goals (vs. Rockhurst University where the Mavericks won 10-9). CMU is averaging 19 goals per game during this win streak, and they are only giving up an average of six to their opponents.
Â
CMU's offense has been led by
Reece Callies,
Jack Griffin,
Brandon Wilson and Ketcham. All four Maverick players have at least 26 goals on the year and they all have more than 10 assists to their names as well.
Â
Meanwhile, the Griffins have been in the midst of their best stretch of games as of late. WC has won five of its last six games, with their lone loss coming against the Hawks. In four of their five victories, the Griffins have scored at least 20 times and have held opponents to under 10 goals.
Â
Lane Kadish has been their go to scorer on the season. He has 39 goals and 16 assists to give him a team high 55 points for the season.
Â
CMU enters the week ranked No. 10 in the nation with a 14-2 record. However, the more important poll has the Mavericks in third place in the south region. They are behind Lenoir-Rhyne and Saint Leo for the first and second spots in the region.
Â
Game time is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
