Mavericks Prepare for Round Two with Rangers and Thunderwolves

Colorado Mesa University goes on their final, regular season road trip this weekend with stops in Denver, Colo. and Pueblo, Colo. The Mavericks will be facing off with No. 11 Regis University (RU) on Friday and CSU-Pueblo (CSUP) on Sunday.

While both games will be against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) opponents, neither will count toward the team's conference records.

This will be the second time the Mavericks have faced both opponents this season. CMU was victorious over the Thunderwolves (15-8) back on March 25 but fell to the Rangers 16-9 one week later.

The game against the Thunderwolves was a game of runs. The Mavericks went on an 8-0 run to finish out the first half with an 11-2 lead. CSUP responded at the start of the second half with a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead down to three, but the Mavericks answered with four straight scores to end the contest.

Meanwhile, the game against came down to a slow start for the Mavericks. CMU found themselves down 8-1 with just over eight minutes to play in the first half. From that point on, the Mavericks and Rangers were an even 8-8 for the remainder of the game.

CMU enters the weekend with the third best offense in the RMAC, behind Lindenwood and RU. The Mavericks are averaging nearly 16 goals per contest. As a team, the Mavericks are also one of the best at not turning the ball over. They are third in the conference with 18 turnovers a game.

The Rangers have been led by Sarah Myres, who has a conference high 46 goals on the season. Myres also has 24 assists on the year, which is good enough for fourth in the conference.

As for the Thunderwolves, Allison Wurscher is one of their leaders. She has 15 assists on the year through 11 games. That gives her a 1.36 average on the season, which slots her in ninth place in the conference.

Friday's game is slotted for a 3 p.m. start time while Sunday's is set for 7 p.m.
