Following their 19-2 domination of the Grizzlies last Saturday, the Mavericks will be traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on Westminster this Friday. The game, moved up a day due to weather forecasts in the area, will be the first of two matchups between these two teams this season, with the second counting towards the team's RMAC records.
Â
So far this season Colorado Mesa University's offense has been clicking on all cylinders. In just two games the Mavericks have scored 36 goals, which averages out to 18 per game. This team has been able to score at will due to the amount of opportunities the team has on net. Of their 68 shots this season, 53 have come on goal. That gives the team a 78 shots on goal percentage thus far.
Â
The team is currently led by
Lindsi Peters and
Olivia Hayden, who both have seven goals already in this young season. They are followed close behind by
Jessica Cook who has netted six goals of her own.
Â
Another advantage that this team is having right now is the ability to pass the ball effectively, making the defense commit in places and creating openings for other players. Of CMU's 36 goals scored, 20 have come on assists. Their 10 assists per game average is good for sixth in the nation in that category.
Despite winning both of their games to open up the season, the Mavericks moved down two spots in the national ranking to 24th in the nation.
Â
As for the Griffins, they come into the weekend with a 1-1 record after falling to George Fox University 13-10 but defeating Pacific University 17-4.
Â
When the Mavericks and Griffins clashed last season, it was CMU that came away victorious with a 20-13 victory on the road. In the game the Mavericks had four players score at least three goals, led by
Lydia Furrow who finished with five.
Â
Game time between these two squads is set for 1 p.m.
