Box Score After the Mavericks pulled out a narrow victory last weekend against Fort Lewis, Colorado Mesa University came out strong on Saturday against Adams State University (ASU). Eleven first half goals were more than enough to seal the victory for CMU, who went on to win the matchup 19-2.

CMU opened up the scoring early and often in this one, putting up six goals in the first 15 minutes of action. The Grizzlies would finally be able to score their first of two goals with 11:34 to play in the half, but the Mavericks shut down any kind of momentum they had gained and rattled off another five goals to end the half.

In the second half the Mavericks kept up the pressure and scored another eight goals in the second half to the Grizzlies lone one.

As a team the Mavericks offense was all over the place throughout the game. They finished with 38 shots to the Grizzlies 10. However, the Maverick defense was also pressuring the Grizzlies constantly in this one. ASU finished with 23 turnovers on the afternoon, including seven of those being caused.

Jessica Cook and
Marissa Leonardi finished with four goals apiece to lead the Mavericks offense with seven others scoring on the day as well.

Lula Mitchell was in net for the Mavericks and she finished the game collecting five saves on just two goals allowed to get her second win of the season.

CMU now moves to 2-0 on the season with Westminster on tap next weekend.
