Box Score With 43 seconds remaining in the game, No. 14 Colorado Mesa University and No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne University (LRU) were knotted up at 12-12 with LRU on the attack. The Mavericks were able to force a turnover with time for one final chance before sending the game into overtime.

Already with two goals on the day, the ball was with midfielder
Jack Griffin. Griffin was able to sneak past the defense and sling in his ninth goal of the season to take the one goal lead with 32 seconds remaining. CMU won the following faceoff and were able to run out the clock to secure the 13-12 upset victory.

With the win the Mavericks gained the program's first ever victory over a top five ranked team in the country, and their second against a top ten ranked team.

The game opened up going back and forth in the first quarter, with both teams scoring three times heading into the second. The second quarter proved to be the Mavericks' most dominant one of the game. CMU managed to score four unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead into the half.

LRU responded early in the third with two goals to cut the Maverick lead down to three. However, the Mavericks were able to score two more goals of their own to push that lead back up to five (10-5). The Bears were not going to go away easily though as they scored the final two goals of the quarter to close within three with 15 minutes to play.

From the 9:20 mark to 1:31 the Bears were able to fight all the way back to even after they outscored the Mavericks 5-1. But it was Griffin who came away with the biggest goal of the day a minute later.

CMU managed to pull off the upset despite being outshot 48-38 on the day and 33-27 in shots on goal.
Reece Callies and Griffin were the leading goal getters for the Mavericks, finishing with three goals apiece.

Remi Reeves came up huge in the win for the Mavericks. He played all 60 minutes in goal and finished the game with 21 saves to help secure the CMU victory.

The win gives the Mavericks their third in a row to finish out their trip to North Carolina. CMU will now come home for two games next weekend against Rockhurst University and Maryville University. These will be the first two games the Mavericks have played at home this season.
