USAFA, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa tennis teams competed in the Air Force Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Rain washed out most of Saturday's competition but some matches did get in.
It was an all Maverick final in the Orange Flight of doubles with the team of
Rebecca Osterberg and
Taylor Hershey picking up an 8-5 win over
Kristen Kirby and
Emily Beckley.
Osterberg and Hershey defeated MSU Denver's duo of Pessoa and Hotan in semi's while Kirby and Beckley defeated the Roadrunner duo of Porter and Xiao.
Hershey, Kirby and Beckley all made the semifinals in the Gold Singles Bracket before the rain washed it out. Freshman
Alexi Klabunde made the semifinals of the Red singles bracket.
On the men's side, many of the Mavericks ran into stiff competition from the host Falcons of Air Force.
Max Lindqvist and Nick Farmen reached the semifinals of the Yellow doubles bracket. The duo dropped an 8-3 decision to MSU Denver's Kaltenbacher and Hayes tandem.
Mitchell Steadman and
Cody Carlton dropped an 8-2 decision to Air Force's Bautista/Garcia team.
Colorado Mesa will be off until the Maverick duals at Elliott Tennis Center beginning October 5.
