PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's tennis team closed out the opening weekend with a pair of tough losses to regional competition on Saturday (Sept. 16).
In the first match of the day against Texas-Permian Basin, the Falcons took two of the three doubles matches with the two teams splitting the singles matches giving UTPB a 5-4 edge.
Max Lindqvist and Nick Farmen took the point at No. 3 doubles, winning 9-7.
Will Agritelley won at No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (5) while
Alain De La Bastide also won in straight sets at No. 5 singles 6-3, 7-5.
Lucas Martin fought back and won in three sets at No. 4 singles 3-6, 6-4 and 10-5 in the third set tiebreaker.
In the final matchup of the weekend, the Newman Jets took five of the six singles to take the 6-3 win over the Mavericks.
The Mavericks won two of the three doubles matches to take the 2-1 lead into the singles matches. Agritelley and
Oliver Lindqvist took the point at No. 1 doubles, 8-6 while the
Max Lindqvist and Farmen team at No. 3 doubles took the 8-5 decision.
Newman took control during singles with only
Max Lindqvist winning at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4 over Felipe Botinella.
Colorado Mesa will head to the Air Force Academy next week for the Falcons Singles and Doubles Tournament on Saturday.
