Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University men's lacrosse team closed the regular season with a 15-8 win over Westminster at Walker Field Saturday (April 29).
Steve Brandenburg led the Mavericks with a hat trick and surpassed the 50 goal mark for the season. Overall the Mavericks had 10 different players score.
The Mavericks opened the game with back-to-back goals but the Griffins tied it up at 2-2. Mesa scored five of the next six goals to lead 7-3 at half.
Both teams scored four goals in the third, but Mesa out-scored Westminster 4-1 in the fourth.
CMU dominated in shots finishing with a 50-29 edge. The Mavs also held a narrow lead in ground balls (18-15).
WC finished 2-for-7 on the extra-man, while CMU was 1-3.
Remi Reeves (13-2) earned the win making five saves and giving up seven goals.
Colorado Mesa (14-2, 9-1) will host the RMAC men's lacrosse tournament May 5-6. Colorado Mesa will face Adams State May 5th at 7 pm.Â
