Softball Repeats as RMAC Champions

LAKEWOOD, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team repeated as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season Champions with a split at Colorado Christian Sunday (April 23).

The Mavericks won game one 12-0 and lost game two 6-3.

CMU scored in all five innings of game one.

The Mavs opened with three runs on four hits in the first.

Alex Dufour highlighted a three-run second inning with a two-run homer to right field.

Brooke Hodgson led-off the third with a homer to center field, and AnnMarie Torres hit a homer to center field that scored two in the fourth.

Mesa scored three runs in the fifth, including a solo homer to left field by Kaila Jacobi.

McKenzie Surface (21-4) allowed three hits in 3.2 innings of work. Andy Hancock allowed one hit in 1.1 innings of relief work.

The Mavericks capitalized on a first inning error to score one run in the first inning of game two without a hit.

CCU plated one run in the bottom of the inning, but CMU added another run in the top of the second.

Mesa's lead grew to 3-1 in the third. Alex Dufour was hit by a pitch and then scored thanks to a single by AnnMarie Torres and a fielder's choice.

The Cougars scored three runs in the fifth on five hits, all singles, and added another in the sixth.

Kimbri Herring (12-1) took the loss giving up five runs on seven hits. McKenzie Surface allowed one unearned run on three hits in two innings of relief work.

Colorado Mesa (38-6, 31-4) will close out the regular season with a four-game home series against CSU-Pueblo April 29-30.
