LAKEWOOD, COLO. –
McKenzie Surface earned her 20
th win of the season for the Colorado Mesa University softball team in a doubleheader sweep at Colorado Christian Saturday (April 22).
CMU won game one 7-0, and game two 14-3.
The Mavericks opened game one with three runs in the third. Alex Dufour hit a double to left field that scored two, and Dufour scored on a double to left field by
Brooke Hodgson.
Hodgson followed up with a two-run homer to right center in the fifth.
Zoe Pakes hit a homer to center field in the sixth, and
AnnMarie Torres blasted one to left field in the seventh to complete the scoring for CMU.
McKenzie Surface turned in another strong performance for her 20
th win of the season. She struck out 10 and allowed three hits in the shutout.
CMU opened game two with three runs in the first.
AnnMarie Torres drove in two runs with a double to left field, and would score on a groundout later in the inning.
AnnMarie Torres extended the CMU lead to 4-0 with a leadoff homer in the second.
CCU got on the board with a two-run homer in the third.
Sarah Phillis hit a two-run homer to right center field to cap a four-run fourth inning for CMU.
CMU scored six runs on only two hits and one error in the fifth, and CCU added one more.
Kimbri Herring struck out seven and gave up two runs on four hits for CMU.
Andy Hancock gave up one run on three hits in one inning of relief work.
Colorado Mesa (37-5, 30-3) and Colorado Christian (26-20, 16-14) will close out the series with a double header Sunday (April 23).
