DENVER – The No. 11 Colorado Mesa University softball team swept a doubleheader at Regis Saturday (April 15).
The Mavericks won game one 1-0 and game two 5-2.
The first game was a pitching dual with
McKenzie Surface giving up five hits and striking out nine in the complete game shutout for CMU.
Logan Losh struck out seven, gave up four hits and the lone CMU run unearned.
The Mavericks lone run came in the third inning. Alex Dufour struck out but reached first on a throwing error by the catcher that allowed
Baylee Boren to score.
CMU struck first in game two scoring two runs in the second. The Mavericks first run scored when
Baylee Boren was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Maggie Manwarren drove in Mesa's second run with a single up the middle.
Brooke Hodgson led off the third inning with a double to the gap in left field, and scored on a single down the left line by
Kaila Jacobi.
The Rangers scored twice in the third, but
Zoe Pakes hit a solo homerun in the fifth for the Mavericks.
Alex Dufour tripled to left center and scored on a single to right field by
AnnMarie Torres.
Kimbri Herring earned the win in game two scattering three hits and allowing no runs.
Colorado Mesa (35-5, 28-3) will play at Colorado Christian April 22-23.
