GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team swept Sunday's (March 19) doubleheader against UCCS to earn its third straight series sweep.
The Mavericks won game one 10-2 and game two 8-0.
Brooke Hodgson led the Mavericks in game one batting four-for-four with five RBIs and three runs scored.
UCCS scored one run in the second and another in the third to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Mavericks scored four runs in the third thanks to a three-run homer to left field by
Brooke Hodgson.
CMU plated three runs in the fifth and another three runs in the sixth.
Brooke Hodgson hit a triple down the right line to score two runs in the sixth.
McKenzie Surface (11-3) gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits for the win.
Hailey Hinson gave the Mavericks a 3-0 lead at the end of two with a three-run homer to left center.
CMU scored two runs in the third and
AnnMarie Torres drove in two of the Mavericks three runs in the fifth with a double to right center.
Kimbri Herring (5-0) earned the complete game shutout after giving up just three hits.
For the series, CMU hit .443 (43-97) and out-scored UCCS 39-7.
Colorado Mesa (20-4, 13-2) will play at Colorado Mines March 25-26.
