GOLDEN, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team swept a doubleheader at Colorado Mines Saturday (March 25).
The Mavericks won game one 8-0 and game two 6-4.
McKenzie Surface was nearly perfect in the first game for the Mavericks giving up three hits in seven innings of work in the shutout win. She also struck out six.
Maggie Manwarren and Alex Dufour led off the game with back-to-back singles, and Manwarren would score on a sac fly by
Tyneesha Houkamau.
Brooke Hodgson led off a three-run fourth inning with a homerun to left center.
Sarah Phillis hit a triple that drove in one run, and Phillis would score on a throwing error on the play.
The Mavericks plated four runs in the seventh.
Brooke Hodgson drove in a pair of runs with a double through the left side, and
Kaila Jacobi hit a two-run homer to left center.
Colorado Mesa opened game two with three runs on three hits in the first.
The Orediggers got on the board in the third scoring one run on a pair of singles in the third.
Alex Dufour drove in two runs in the fourth with a single to left, and Kelli Mrofcza hit a double that drove in one run in the seventh.
Mines scored three runs in the seventh on three hits, but the Oredigger rally would come up short.
Kimbri Herring earned her seventh win of the year striking out six and allowing two runs on 10 hits.
Tyneesha Houkamau gave up one run on two hits in one inning of relief work.
Colorado Mesa (22-4, 15-2) and Colorado Mines will close the series with a doubleheader Sunday (March 26).
