Softball Streak Grows to 17 Games

GOLDEN, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team extended its winning streak to a season-high 17 games after sweeping a doubleheader at Colorado Mines Sunday (March 26).

The Mavericks won game one 4-0 and game two 6-4.

CMU recorded eight hits, all singles, in the first game.

Mesa manufactured its first run in the third inning after Alex Dufour drove in a run with a ground out to the pitcher.

The Mavericks plated two runs in fourth on a sacrifice fly and the other on a wild pitch.

The final CMU run in the sixth came compliments of a sacrifice fly by Hailey Hinson that scored Jessica Boruff.

McKenzie Surface struck out four and scattered four Mines hits for her 13th win of the season.

Kellie Mrofcza scored the first run in game two with a solo home run to left field in the top of the second.

Mines tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning and took the lead in the third with a run in the third.

Kellie Mrofcza tied the game with a leadoff homer to left center in the fourth, and the Mavs tacked on its third run in the fifth.

Colorado Mesa scored three runs in the top of the seventh, two of which crossed the plate on a double to center field by Zoe Pakes.

Mines scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a double.

Andy Hancock (3-2) earned the win giving up four runs on nine hits.

Colorado Mesa (24-4, 17-2) will play at Fort Lewis April 1-2.
