PHOENIX - The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team won a pair of matches to open the Spring season Friday (Feb. 17).
Colorado Mesa opened the day with a 6-3 win over former RMAC foe Western New Mexico.
Kristen and
Katie Kirby posted a narrow win at No. 1 doubles 9-7.
CMU took a 2-0 lead in the match thanks to an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles by
Emily Beckley and
Taylor Hershey.
The Mavericks won four of the six singles matches.
Kristen Kirby won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, and
Emily Beckley posted a 7-6 (3), 3-6, 10-2 win at No. 2.
Katie Kirby won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4, and
Nicole Kitsuse won in three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5.
Colorado Mesa finished the day with a 5-4 win over Arizona Christian.
CMU trailed 2-1 after doubles with the lone win coming from
Emily Beckley and
Taylor Hershey at No. 2.
The Mavericks would win singles matches at No. 1, 4, 5 and 6.
Kristen Kirby defeated Mikayla Morgan 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1.
Katie Kirby need three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, to defeat Elizabeth Kelley at No. 4.
Georgia Hansen also claimed a three set win, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 6.
Nicole Kitsuse won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5.
Colorado Mesa (4-3) will play a pair of matches Saturday (Feb. 18).
