ST. GEORGE, UTAH – The Colorado Mesa University softball team split a pair of games Friday (Feb. 10) at the Dixie State Classic. Colorado Mesa lost to Concordia (Calif.) 4-3, and then defeated Calif. Baptist 4-3.
After three scoreless innings,
Jessica Boruff drove in a pair of runs with a double to center field.
Both teams would plate a run in the fifth inning.
The Mavericks committed two errors in the sixth inning which led to both of the Eagles runs, including the game-winner.
Brooke Hodgson and
Kellie Mrofcza each had two hits for the Mavericks.
AnnMarie Torres took the loss allowing six hits and two runs, both unearned.
Colorado Mesa opened the second game with California Baptist with two runs in the bottom of the first as the first six batters all reached base.
CBU added a lone run in the second and CMU added one in the third.
The Lancers tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth.
AnnMarie Torres led off the fifth with a double and would score on a single to right field by
Zoe Pakes for the game-winning run.
Torres and Pakes each finished with two hits for CMU.
McKenzie Surface struck out seven batters for the complete game win, her fourth of the season.
Colorado Mesa (6-1) will face St. Edward's and Western Washington Saturday (Feb. 10).
