GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – For the second straight season, Colorado Mesa and Chadron State tied 20-20 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual. Chadron State won the dual on criteria of having more total match points, 47-37, in the matches not decided by a fall or a forfeit.
After falling behind 10-0 in the dual, freshman Will Moss earned a 4-3 decision over Chadron State's Brock Thumm in his first collegiate varsity match. After being taken down early in the first period, Moss earned a quick escape and an almost simultaneous takedown to take a 3-2 lead. His third period escape proved to be the difference.
After Colorado Mesa fell at 149 pounds,
John Daniel earned a 6-3 decision at 157 pounds to make the dual 14-6 in favor of the Eagles.
Colorado Mesa dropped a close bout at 165 pounds but came away with the next three bouts to take a 20-17 lead.
Senior NCAA Qualifier
Bruno Nicoletti picked up a 5-0 decision at 174 pounds followed by a tech fall at 184 pounds by
Adam Visconti. Redshirt freshman
Aaron Dick received a forfeit win at 197 pounds before the final bout of the evening.
Chadron State earned a decision victory knotting the score at 20-20.
Colorado Mesa falls to 0-2 in duals on the season.
The Mavericks will host the Colorado Mesa Open tomorrow morning beginning at 9am in Brownson Arena.
