D'Ambrosia claims second straight diving sweep

Mavs win 3 of 4, set seven NCAA marks on Saturday

RIVERSIDE, Calif.— Colorado Mesa University senior all-American Sage D'Ambrosia continued his fine diving season as he swept the 1 and 3-meter events for the second straight day with NCAA qualifying scores on Saturday at the Cal Baptist University Lancer Invitational.

The Maverick women also had a 1-meter win from Kelsey Vreeman and three total NCAA qualifying efforts as the CMU dominated the 2-day meet, winning seven of the eight diving events.

D'Ambosia, who had won the 6-dive format competitions on Friday, tallied 462.55 points over 11 dives on the 1-meter board on Saturday.  He then won the 3-meter event by 26 points with 528.65, easily surpassing the NCAA standards of 440 and 460 points, respectively.

D'Ambrosia is now undefeated in his last seven events this season and has eclipsed the qualifying standard 10 times.

Meanwhile, sophomore teammate Noah Macomber also had a solid day finishing third in both of Saturday's events with qualifying scores of 443.70 and 475.65 points.

Cal Baptist's Zach Parry took second in both events with 455.70 (1m) and 502.65 (3m).

The Mavericks' Sabin Venable finished fourth in the 1-meter with 408.85 while Chandler Livingston (402.45), Ross Barringer (363.80) and Caleb Truman (322.60) took fifth, eighth and ninth, respectively.
Livingston was fourth on the 3-meter with 447.65 points while Truman (395.85) and Barringer (388.35) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

On the women's side, Kelsey Vreeman won a very tight 11-dive, 1-meter competition with 414.05 points, edging Cal Baptist's Emily Dunkerson, the 3-meter winner, by just 0.65 points.  CMU's Friday double-winner Brittany Dixon was just a half-point further behind at 412.90.  All three surpassed the NCAA qualifying standard of 390 points.

On the 3-meter board, Dunkerson scored 429.60 points to claim the win while Dixon was second with a season-high 425.90, surpassing the qualifying mark of 420.  Vreeman was third with 410.55.

CMU's Stefany Busch finished fourth on the 1-meter board with a season-high 366.45 points while Kaylee Eakman took fifth with 337.40.

Eakman was sixth on the 3-meter with 375.55 points while Busch finished seventh with 364.95.

The Mavericks are now off until Jan. 4 and 5, when they will join their swimming counterparts in hosting Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Colorado School of Mines in a 2-day dual meet in the El Pomar Natatorium.
