Div. I Cougars Too Much for Mavs

Box Score PROVO, Utah – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team took on Division I power Brigham Young in an exhibition on Thursday (Nov. 2) night at the Marriott Center. The Cougars led early and coasted to an 86-68 win over the Mavericks.
 
BYU opened the game up hot from the outside as Broomfield, Colo. product Brenna Chase made four three-pointers in the first five minutes of play and finished with those 12 points.
 
Maverick senior Erin Reichle finished with a game-high 27 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 6-for-9 from beyond the three-point arc. Reichle was guarded closely all night by West Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year Cassie Devashrayee.
 
Devashrayee finished with a team-high 16 points on 3-of-7 shooting but was 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
 
The Mavericks as a team shot 37.3 percent from the field and just 57.1 percent from the free-throw line. BYU used their size advantage and shot 50.9 percent from the field and 52 percent from beyond the three-point line (12-for-23).
 
Colorado Mesa will play one more exhibition game on Saturday (Nov. 4) against Weber State in Ogden, Utah. The Mavericks will open the regular season on Nov. 10 against Midwestern State.
