SALUM GARNERS THIRD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Quarterback
Eystin Salum continued his utter destruction of opposing defenses last week and picked up his third RMAC offensive player of the week honor. Salum accounted for six touchdowns and 359 yards of total offense. He rushed for 84 yards and three scores while also passing for another 275 and three touchdowns.
SACK LUNCH
Senior defensive end
Blake Nelson continues to produce this season even though he often times sees a double team or an extra chip block from a running back. Nelson was named the RMAC defensive player of the week last week after garnering 3.5 sacks, eight tackles, a blocked PAT and two QB hurries. He leads the RMAC with five sacks and has 22 in his career.
GIVE ME THAT PBU
Defensive back
Antonio Clark wasnt even supposed to play last week, but it was a good thing he did. Clark enjoyed one of his best game's of his career where he had seven tackles and five pass break ups.Â
IT'S BLOCKED
The Colorado Mesa special teams unit continues to be a factor in every game. This time on the field goal block team. Offensive lineman
Austin Fleer got his big mits on a block while
Blake Nelson blocked a PAT.
NO TIME NEEDED
With the no huddle spread offense, it doesnt take a lot of time for the Mavericks to score. The opponents have possessed the ball an average of nearly 13 minutes longer per game than CMU.
THE TRENCHES
The offensive line has been solid for the Mavericks. But, since the move of
Aaron Simons to right tackle and the insertion of
Ty Leonard they have allowed just four sacks compared to the eight in the first four games of the season.
HALFTIME LEAD
Colorado Mesa is 5-0 this season when taking a lead into halftime. During
Russ Martin's tenure, the Mavericks are 31-4 when taking a lead into halftime.
NOT LOOKING TOO FAR AHEAD
The Mavericks continue their two week road trip with a matchup against an upstart Adams State team in Alamosa. The Grizzlies currently sit right in the middle of the RMAC at 3-3.
