PUEBLO, Colo. - Colorado Mesa went on the road for their 9th dual in 12 days when they squared off with CSU-Pueblo on Wednesday evening. The Mavericks showed the wear and tear as CSU-Pueblo dominated the dual with a 25-6 win. The ThunderWolves won eight of the ten bouts with just one coming for bonus points.
The Mavericks gained momentum out of the gate with a win at 125 pounds by Tommy Tawata. Tawata secured an early takedown and rode those points throughout the match in a 6-4 win over the regionally ranked Josiah Seaton. The Honolulu, Hawaii product is now riding a five-match win streak that includes a pair of quality wins over regional opponents.
CSU-Pueblo seized control of the match winning the next matches by decision to take a 9-3 lead in the dual.
Redshirt freshman
Payton Tawater gave the Mavericks hope with a 8-1 win over Kyle Fantin at 157 pounds. Tawater moved his winning streak to 11 straight matches and moved the dual score to 9-6.
The ThunderWolves won the final five bouts of the evening to wrap up the dual.
Colorado Mesa will remain on the road when they take on Colorado Mines tomorrow in Golden.
