Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse earned a hard fought 15-9 victory Saturday (Apr. 30) against Rockhurst. With the win by six goals, Colorado Mesa earned a share of the RMAC regular season championship and the right to host the RMAC men's lacrosse tournament.
The first period was all Colorado Mesa, as they started off the game scoring the first five goals of the game.
The Mavericks would continue into the second period scoring four more, but Rockhurst would answer with five of their own to end the half.
Rockhurst would score the only two goals in the third period.
The fourth became a close game as Rockhurst would bring the game to a one goal game but Colorado Mesa would answer with six straight goals to end the game.
The Hawks outshot the Mavericks 47-31 and won the ground ball battle 29-20.
CMU struggled to win face-offs, winning only 7-of-28.
Man-down was strong for Colorado Mesa killing off four of seven Rockhurst man-up attempts.
Steve Brandenburg led the Mavs in goals and points scoring six goals and seven points.
Zach Weaver was in goal for CMU and made 17 saves, allowing nine Hawk goals.
Colorado Mesa (11-4, 7-1) will now take part in the RMAC Tournament May 6-7 at Walker Field. The Mavericks will play at 7pm against an opponent yet to be determined.
