Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse earned an 8-7 win in double overtime against Westminster on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 16) at Dumke Field.
The first quarter was tight as CMU and WC traded goals and ended in a tie.
In the second quarter, Westminster found a little more success and ended the half with a 5-4 lead on the Mavericks.
Colorado Mesa would score the lone goal in the third to tie up the game.
The fourth quarter was much like the first with each team trading goals.
The first overtime was owned by the Griffins but a strong save at the end of the period by
Zach Weaver forced a second overtime where CMU would find the game winner by
Connor Morgan.
Shots favored the Mavs as they outshot the Griffins 48-32.
Westminster won the face off battle winning 12 compared the Colorado Mesa's seven.
Ground balls also favored the Griffins with Westminster out scooping the Mavericks 29-22.
Man-down was strong for CMU killing off all the penalties they had.
Extra-man was able to contribute for the Mavs converting on two of their four attempts.
Seven Mavs had points in the match led by
Calen Ketcham with two goals.
Connor Morgan and
Reece Callies led Colorado Mesa in points with both having three.
Zach Weaver was between the pipes for CMU making 13 saves and allowing 7 goals.
Colorado Mesa (7-4, 4-1) take on CSU-Pueblo Friday (April 22) at Walker Field.
