Box Score 2 ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team won their 17
th straight game after sweeping their doubleheader against Adams State on Friday (March 25). They won game one 11-2 and game two 14-0.
CMU began the day with five home runs in game one.
Adams State got things going with a homer in the bottom of the first to give them an early 2-0 lead, but
Kaila Jacobi answered with a home run of her own in the second to put CMU on the board.
The Mavericks kept up the home run streak with a homer by
Makayla Kovac in the fourth to tie the game 2-2.
CMU then exploded for six runs in the fifth inning.
Sarah Phillis started the inning with a home run. RBIs by
Baylee Boren,
Brooke Hodgson and
Kaila Jacobi gave them an 8-2 lead going into the sixth inning.
Baylee Boren kept the momentum going with a two-run home run, and
Makayla Kovac sealed CMU's win with another home run to win 11-2.
Makayla Kovac tied the RMAC career home run record (56) with her second home run of the game in the sixth inning.
Kaila Jacobi both finished the game with two hits and two RBIs.
In game two,
Rochelle Talamantes only allowed one hit and struck out four batters.
The strong hitting continued for CMU.
Brooke Hodgson singled to right field, allowing
Baylee Boren and
Alexandria Dufour to score the first runs.
Brooke Hodgson and
Kaila Jacobi both scored unearned runs, followed by a run by
Sarah Phillis to give CMU a 6-0 lead after the first inning.
The Mavericks then scored one run in the second and third innings respectively before scoring another six runs in the fourth.
A triple by
Kellie Mrofcza gave CMU three of those runs. She went on to score a run as well as
Sarah Phillis and
Baylee Boren to end the game in five innings.
Colorado Mesa (21-7) finishes their series against Adams State tomorrow (March 26) with a doubleheader starting at 11am.
