Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - Colorado Mesa earned its first win of the Florida trip on Thursday (March 17) against Florida Southern 13-10.
The Mavericks came out very strong in the first half, leading the Moccasins 7-3 at the half.
The second half started to become heavily contested when the Moccasins scored seven goals in the half but the Mavs were able to hold them off in the end.
Penalties were an issue for both teams. The Mavericks had 11 penalties for 11 and a half total penalty minutes while the Moccasins had eight penalties for seven penalty minutes.
Colorado Mesa's man-down was strong killing off seven of 11 penalties they faced.
The Mavericks extra-man was also very strong scoring on five of their eight trips to the field.
Shots on goal were nearly even with the Moccasins out shooting the Mavs 28-26.
Colorado Mesa was able to win the face off battle, winning 16 compared to the Moccasins 11.
The ground ball battle was also nearly even with the Moccasins out scooping the Mavs 36-34.
Steve Bradenburg and
Calen Ketcham each had hat tricks on the night, leading the Mavs in goals.
Bradenburg, Ketcham and
David Solomon led Colorado Mesa in points having five points each.
Zach Weaver started the game for the Mavs and had seven goals against, made 12 saves and earned the win making his record on the season 2-2.
Remi Reeves finished off the last eight minutes making six saves and allowing three goals.
Colorado Mesa returns to action on Saturday (March 19) as they take on Rollins in Winter Park, Fla.
